Discretionary Portfolio Management

Local Offering

Local portfolios are managed on the broking platform of SBG Securities (the Stockbroking division of the Standard Bank Group). The majority of the assets held in these accounts are listed on the JSE.

Douglas Investments utilises the Stanlib range of fixed income funds for two reasons: Stanlib have a impeccable long term track record managing fixed income; and bespoke portfolios are generally too small to make direct investments in fixed income.

Accounts are opened in the name of the client and have the benefit of an independent custodian.

Offshore Offering

Offshore portfolios are managed on the broking platform of HSBC Private Bank in Zurich, or Swissquote Bank SA. Both platforms provide the ability to buy virtually any asset, listed or otherwise, on any exchange in most jurisdictions.

Accounts are opened in the name of the client and have the benefit of an independent custodian.

Reporting

Statements are made available to clients on a monthly basis via a secure client portal, and at any time on their request. A market overview and if appropriate, specific comments relating to each portfolio, accompany the statements.

Management are always available to meet with clients at their request.

Fees

Fees are structured according to the value of assets under management for each client but generally consist of a basic fee and a participation fee. The basic fee is calculated as a percentage of the total portfolio value (time weighted) at a quarter end. The participation fee is structured based on any new gains achieved on the portfolio (high water mark calculation) and is also calculated quarterly. The participation fee is most important to the client and to Douglas Investments as it embodies the partnership principle under which the portfolios are managed.
